To my beautiful mother and beloved wife of 54 years to Kingsley, Hyacinth Louise Morrison was the true heart of her family and community. She was a loving mother to Marlon, Dwayne, and Sharon, and a proud grandmother to Xavier, Jaden, Shae, Malik, and Aliyah.

Over the years, as her own children grew, Hyacinth’s veranda became a safe haven. She was known as “Mama” to a countless number of neighborhood children, many of whom, though now grown with families of their own, still call her by that name today.

A dear sister to Devon and lovingly remembered by her sister-in-law, Ms. Pearl, Hyacinth will be deeply missed by her nieces, nephews, lifelong friends, and extended family.

In 2002, Hyacinth helped found a grassroots community youth initiative, beginning what would become her life-defining mission: “Lift Up One Until All Are Safe.” Over the next 20 years, she devoted herself wholeheartedly to guiding, mentoring, and protecting children from all walks of life.

Her fierce dedication not only altered the paths of countless youth but also created a vast network of community support to ensure that mission lived on.

Hyacinth’s family is eternally grateful for the deep friendships she made through her community work, and for the strength and support those friends gave back to her when she needed it most.

We and all our family extend their sincere appreciation to the amazing doctors and nurses at the Kingston Public Hospital and the clinics for their compassionate care.

Hyacinth will be remembered for her unwavering determination, her big heart, and the profound love she shared with her family, her friends, and the children of Jamaica who so deeply mattered to her.
